Story
Directed by Jack Pollexfen, the 1956 film "Indestructible Man" is a science fiction horror movie. Pollexfen had a career in the industry that included writing and producing as well as directing, often focusing on low-budget genre films. His partner on many projects was Aubrey Wisberg, though for this particular film, Pollexfen directed the script written by Vy Russell and Sue Dwiggins. The film's plot revolves around a criminal named Charles "Butcher" Benton, played by Lon Chaney Jr. Chaney was a prominent actor known for his roles in horror films during the 1940s and 1950s, famously starring in "The Wolf Man" (1941). In "Indestructible Man," Benton's character is executed but brought back to life by a scientist. Living up to the film's title, Benton gains superhuman strength and seemingly becomes invulnerable. He then embarks on a quest for revenge against those who betrayed him.The cast also includes actors Ross Elliott and Marian Carr. Ross Elliott plays the role of police lieutenant Dick Chasen, who is tasked with stopping Benton's killing spree. Marian Carr plays Eva Martin, a key figure who becomes entangled in the chaos. Although the film did not receive major awards, it has become a cult favorite among fans of mid-20th-century sci-fi and horror cinema, admired for its gritty storyline and Chaney's compelling performance. Despite its low-budget constraints, the film delivers a gripping narrative and showcases the era's fascination with themes of resurrection and invincibility.
